Q. How long does knife sharpening take?

A. The turnaround time depends on the condition of your knife and can only be determined after we inspect it.

Simple sharpening jobs may be completed the same day, but most knives require several days to about one week. Severely damaged or specialized knives may take longer.

Q. I’m visiting Japan from overseas. Can you sharpen my knife while I’m traveling?

A. Yes. If you are visiting Japan from overseas, we can offer same-day sharpening as a special service by advance email reservation.

Please note that this service is subject to the type and condition of the knife. In some cases, we may be unable to accept the work.

Q. Is your shop tax-free?

A. Sorry, we are not a tax-free store.

Q. Do you accept credit cards?

A. Yes. We accept major credit cards as well as various electronic payment methods.

Q. How much does sharpening cost?

A. The price depends on the type and condition of your knife.

Please refer to our price list available in-store or on the Pricing page of our website. >>Sharpening fee

Q. Is parking available?

A. Yes. Customer parking is available in front of the warehouse behind our shop.

Please do not park in nearby shopping centers or residential parking areas.

Q. Where is your shop located?

A. Our shop is located along National Route 129 in Atsugi City.

The nearest train station is about a 20-minute walk, and there is no bus service to our location.

Please visit our Access page for detailed directions.

Q. Can you sharpen stainless steel(INOX) knives?

A. Absolutely. Most kitchen knives sold today are made of stainless steel, and we sharpen them regularly.

Q. Can you restore an old, heavily rusted knife?

A. Light surface rust can usually be removed completely during sharpening.

However, if the blade has deep black corrosion, it may not be possible to remove it entirely. In some cases, we may have to decline the work depending on the knife’s condition. Please contact us in advance if you are unsure.

Q. Can you replace knife handles?

A. Yes, we can replace the handles of traditional Japanese knives with a hidden tang (inserted handle).

We do not replace riveted Western-style handles or handles on knives that were not purchased from our shop.

Q. Can you sharpen bread knives?

A. Unfortunately, we do not sharpen bread knives.

Most bread knives are not designed to be resharpened, and their serrated edges make sharpening extremely difficult.

In many cases, a properly sharpened chef’s knife or Santoku knife will actually slice bread more cleanly than a dull bread knife.

Q. Can you sharpen ceramic knives?

A. Sorry, we do not sharpen ceramic or other non-metal blades.

Please contact the manufacturer from whom you purchased the knife for assistance.

Q. Can you sharpen knives made outside Japan?

A. In many cases, yes. However, some knives made outside Japan are not designed to be sharpened with Japanese whetstones, so we cannot guarantee that every knife can be serviced.

In addition, because the steel and blade construction may differ significantly from Japanese knives, the sharpening results may not be the same as those achieved with Japanese-made knives. We will inspect the knife first and let you know whether sharpening is possible.

Q. Can you sharpen scissors?

A. Yes, but scissors are accepted for in-store service only.

Please note that acceptance depends on the type and condition of the scissors.

We generally accept:

  • Tailor’s shears (forged steel)
  • Pruning shears
  • Bonsai shears
  • Floral shears

We do not accept:

  • Kitchen scissors
  • Hairdressing scissors
  • Office or craft scissors
  • Sheet metal shears

For other types of edged tools, whether sharpening is possible depends on the type and condition of the item. We can determine this only after inspecting it in person.
